Overview
This refresher course is designed for experienced operatives who require an update on safe oxy-fuel cutting practices using oxygen and fuel gases. The training combines essential theoretical knowledge with practical hands-on exercises, reinforcing safe operating procedures and equipment use. Participants will develop and refresh skills in both manual and mechanical cutting techniques for metals ranging from 0.5 mm to 250 mm thick.

Outcome
- Refresher attendance record issued (plus a brief competence check record if required).
Recommended Repeat / Refresher Intervals
- Refresher / Top-Up: every 12 months (2–4 hours)
- Full course repeat: every 3 years (7–8 hours)
Earlier refresher is recommended if: the operator has not used oxy-fuel equipment for 6 months+, equipment or procedures change, or there has been an incident/near miss or unsafe practice observed.

Course Overview
Duration: 2/3 hours (can be extended to 4 hours if additional practical re-check time is required)
Refresher content
- Safety-critical recap (flashback prevention and response, cylinder safety, fire prevention, PPE, emergency actions)
- Equipment condition checks and set-up revalidation (connections, leak testing, purging, correct placement of safety devices)
- Lighting, flame setting and shutdown re-check (delegate demonstration)
- Short supervised practical re-check (safe control and correct technique)
What you'll achieve
On completion you'll receive a TDR Certificate of Competence.
