NVQ Level 3 Engineering Maintenance
NVQ Level 3 Engineering Maintenance
Course Overview
The EAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance is a work-based qualification designed to formally recognise and certify the competence of advanced engineering maintenance technicians. Awarded by EAL, the specialist awarding body for engineering and manufacturing qualifications, this programme validates the skills required to carry out complex maintenance activities safely and effectively within industrial environments.
Learners will develop competence across a range of maintenance disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, electronic, fluid power, and integrated engineering systems. The qualification combines core mandatory units such as health and safety compliance, engineering working practices, and effective communication, alongside specialist units aligned to the learner’s occupational role.
Assessment is carried out entirely in the workplace, ensuring learners demonstrate real-world competence through day-to-day engineering maintenance activities rather than simulated tasks or written examinations.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the programme, learners will be able to:
- Apply health, safety, and statutory regulations within engineering maintenance environments
- Interpret technical documentation, drawings, and maintenance instructions
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on engineering systems and equipment
- Diagnose and rectify faults across mechanical, electrical, and fluid power systems
- Use tools, instruments, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively
- Apply efficient maintenance practices to minimise downtime and improve reliability
- Communicate technical information within engineering teams and workplaces
- Demonstrate competence in a specialist maintenance discipline within industry standards
